Stewardship
“Remember: it all belongs to God.” “Stewardship” is a word that comes from the Old Norse word stivadr, which means “the one who guards the household.” Every Christian—every human—is therefore a “guardian” of God’s household. But what is God’s “household”? Psalm 24 tells us “The earth is the Lord’s, and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.” When we consider our finite life in God’s infinite universe, we recognize the Holy Spirit’s gift to us of Life itself. With “all we are and all we have” from God, how can we possibly thank God for all that is given to us? As guardians of God’s household, our purpose is to grow in our relationship with Jesus by giving and giving Thanks. But how can we give anything to the light of the world, the source of all being? How can we live to God and give to God a life that watches over God’s household? How do we grow ourselves in our relationship with Christ as guardians of God’s promises to us? The answers to all of our questions are revealed every day in the way we live our stewardship.
